"The Princess Anne"
The
Queen Anne Style's Younger Sister
Typically, earlier Queen Anne Style homes
are recognized by their asymmetrical foot
prints and romantic, often whimsical,
flourishes in their architectural details.
Embellishments like circular towers emerging
from the roof line, and elaborate
wrap-a-round porches are common. The
porches with numerous finely turned
columns also show an apparent obsession
with brackets and filigree spindle work.
The interiors of these fine homes were
also embellished with beautiful woodwork
that was readily available due to the
machines and power of Industrial Age. Like
the exterior the interiors are exquisitely
detailed. Decorated with fine woodwork,
elegant staircases and beautifully detailed
mantels the interiors delight the eye.
Like its more elaborately detailed neighbors
this house has an asymmetrical footprint,
but there is no tower. Old House Journal
devoted an issue to this more plain
type of Queen Anne built late in the 19th
Century and early 20th Century dubbing it
the Princess Anne. The more austere façade
appeals to modern taste in its simplicity,
and it undoubtedly requires less
maintenance.
Our Princess Anne has been restored on the
interior and the exterior has been renovated
with modern low maintenance materials and
energy efficient windows
The elegant staircase,pocket doors and
detailed moldings gleam in their now
restored to their original finishes.

Northeast Missouri
Lifestyle
This
romantic Queen Anne cottage is set in an equally lovely Victorian town.
Many
nineteenth-century towns in Missouri were settled by Old World romantics. Edina
is no exception. More than a century and a half ago, a Scottish immigrant who
admired the work of poet Robert Burns came up with the name "Edina" for the
newly platted town in northeast Missouri. "Edina!" wrote Burns of his beloved
Edinburgh, "Scotia's darling seat!/All hail thy palaces and tow'rs. . . ."
Edina is set amid green rolling hills that evoke the pastoral areas of Scotland,
and Edina's stately cathedral-like St. Joseph Church, which can be seen for many
miles in all directions, is reminiscent of Old World churchscapes. The gentle
hills around Edina are a fit setting for a small town – population, about 1200 –
where the pace of life is easy and men and women speak easily to one another as
they visit churches, schools, banks, the grocery store, the post office, and
cafes. Edina’s impressive Victorian streetscapes qualified for two National
Register of Historic Places historic districts. Edina is the seat of Knox
County, a rural area where corn, soybeans, and cattle are king. The town's
economy is geared toward serving local farmers, although the basics of daily
life are conveniently available within a few blocks of any Edina home. For more
ambitious shopping or entertainment, the lively and multifaceted city of
Kirksville – home of Truman State University – is 25 miles away. Edina. . . a
neighborly village with college-town conveniences just minutes away.
